The process
How professional spray foam removal works

Survey and quote
The specialist confirms the foam type, the sprayed area and access, checks the condition of the timbers, and quotes in writing.

Preparation
The loft is cleared and protected, the work area is set up safely and protective equipment is in place.

Removal
Foam is cut and scraped from the rafters and roof underside, taking care not to damage timbers, felt or wiring.

Waste disposal
The foam is bagged and taken away by a registered waste carrier. Ask for the waste transfer note.

Inspection and documentation
The roof space is checked, photographed and documented, so a surveyor or lender can see the timbers again.

Certificate
You receive the removal report and certificate. Keep them with the invoice for any future sale or remortgage.

Why we don't recommend dry ice blasting
Some companies offer dry ice blasting for spray foam. We don't recommend it for lofts: the extreme cold can crack tiles, make roofing felt brittle and split battens, and it usually costs more than careful mechanical removal. Ask any company how it will remove the foam before you book.

You can, but it rarely works out for a whole loft. DIY removal risks dust exposure, damage to the roof membrane, timbers or wiring, and foam left behind where a surveyor will still find it, and it leaves no paper trail for a lender.
